Some of the structures in Autonauts require floors, walls and/or power in order to operate. At the beginning, no structures have these requirements, but as you research and unlock later or more complex buildings, they will start to have more requirements. You can tell what a structure will need before building it, as all structures with requirements will have a white border with icons for each requirement at the bottom of their picture in the Structure Blueprint menu. No structure requires floors, walls or power before it's finished, so you can always build it with a blueprint first and then add walls, for example.
Walls, floors and power structures are themselves structures built from blueprints. They can be found in the walls, floors and miscellaneous tabs in the Structure Blueprint menu.
Floors[ | ]
When your structure requires flooring, you must put flooring underneath all of the tiles for the structure. This includes any input/output tiles. The following items count as floors:
All of the flooring provide movement speed bonuses (given in brackets).

Walls[ | ]
When your structure requires walls, you must surround your structure with walls to make a room.
The maximum room size is 400 tiles of the interior, so any area larger than this must be divided into smaller rooms to satisfy the wall requirement for structures.
These walls can be combined freely; a room doesn't have to be built only from one type of wall. Even if visually they don't link (like in the corners), they count as a joined wall and as a room.
Walls (other than fences and dry stone walls) can also be stacked to get higher walls, but only one level is required for structures.
The following items count as walls:

Doors[ | ]
While structures don't inherently require doors, you do need at least one door or gate to be able to get inside and use the structures. Gates will keep animals inside a fenced area, but they can pass through open arches.
The following items count as doors:
Additionally, windows can attach to all kinds of walls except fences and dry stone walls, but cannot be walked through:

Rooms[ | ]
While the game never calls them as such, the act of adding floors and walls creates a room, so we shall refer to this as making rooms for your structures. Rooms do not need to be fully covered in floors to satisfy structure requirements so long as the structure itself has floors under all of its tiles.
Power[ | ]
Structures that require power must be connected to a power source via belt linkages.
Each structure needs a specific amount of power to operate, which can be confirmed by hovering over that structure.
The overall amount of power consumed and produced by your power grid can be confirmed by hovering over any belt linkage in that grid:
Power generating structures[ | ]
These are different power generating structures available:
- Windmill (50 power per 15 s)
- Giant Water Wheel (150 power per 10 s)
- Stationary Steam Engine (up to 1000 power, depends on fuel and water)
- Train Engine (pulls train carriages with fuel and water)
