Buckets are tools used to gather and move particulates and liquids, like sand or milk.
To fill a bucket, use 
on the corresponding tile or object, then use 
on the target tile or object to pour the bucket into it. You can also empty the bucket (destroying its contents) by using Z.
Pouring is the only action that costs durability; filling or emptying the bucket are free.
